In 1990, the reputable Mr. Tien-Mao Chen, a former Speaker of the Kaohsiung City Council, invited several prominent society figures to set up Ta Chong Bank (hereinafter, the “Bank”), which was later established in Kaohsiung in January 1992. The Bank officially started operations on Apr 2, 1992 and was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 1999. To enhance its business development and competitiveness, the Bank's headquarters was relocated to Taipei in 2000. On May 29, 2001, the Bank merged with Polyvest Bills Finance Corp.
In 2007, the Carlyle Group and the Gable Fund invested NT$21.5 billion in Ta Chong Bank. Our major shareholders today are Zhongxi Co., Ltd. (the subsidiary of the Carlyle Group in Taiwan), Xionghe Limited (the subsidiary of the Gable Fund in Taiwan), KYMCO Company, Ching Yuan Investment Co. Ltd., Holien Investment Co., Ltd., Hung Kuang Investment Co., Ltd. as well as foreign institutional and local investors. On Sep 1, 2009, having received the approval of the Financial Supervisory Commission, Executive Yuan, Ta Chong Bank acquired the business operations of Kaoshiung Second Credit Cooperative. As at May 10, 2011, Ta Chong Bank has one overseas subsidiary - Ta Chong Finance (Hong Kong) Ltd., and a total of 70 domestic business units - including four operating departments (Business Department, Trust Department, OBU, and International Business Department) and 66 branches around the island.
